The Process

This procedure is actually relatively short—from start to finish it only takes 20-30 minutes. You can go get micro-needled during your lunch break! First, the dermatologist will numb the patient’s skin with numbing cream, making the whole stabbing-your-face-with-needles thing mostly painless. Thankfully, the procedure is not done one needle-hole at a time. There are “dermarollers” and “dermapens” used to get the job done faster. A Dermaroller resembles a small paint roller that is covered in needles. Dermapens are used to get to the hard to reach areas of the face that the dermaroller cannot access. The skin will be red for a few days, but it will heal quickly.
The Results
So why would you put yourself through this face-stabbing procedure? Easy. The results speak for themselves. Micro-needling procedures sound unpleasant, but they really are not that painful and more than worth it. Microneeding is said to treat wrinkles, dark spots, scars, stretch marks, and dull skin. Some claim that microneedling helps with cellulite as well, but that has not been proved yet. Why does it work? Well, the small injuries cause skin cells to start up the healing process, and this not only helps fill in the needle holes, it fixes up the surrounding skin as well.
